Let Your Light Shine

Starting your child's education

Blending a high-quality education with exceptional care and support, our outstanding Reception class provides the perfect start to your child’s learning journey.

Children move from preschool into our Reception class—called Rainbows—the September after they turn four.

In Reception, children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum, which is guided by the national EYFS Framework. This introduces a bit more structure to their day as they work toward the four key early learning goals.

If you have made an application for your child to start at Staunton and Corse Academy in September 2025, we will be in contact once places have been allocated in April.

If your place has been allocated, congratulations, and we look forward to welcoming you to Staunton and Corse Primary Academy!

Year 6 Buddy System

Our system of 'Buddies' forms an important part of the caring community here at Staunton and Corse Primary Academy. We carefully match our Year 6 children with children in Reception right from the very first day they enter the Academy. The older children have an important role in creating a safe and happy environment so our youngest members can settle quickly. They will spend time with them during their first few weeks (or as long as they are needed) as well as eating lunch with them and then will continue to see them on a regular basis during lunchtimes. The younger children quickly learn that they can approach their buddy for any problem or difficulty they may experience; the buddy will then take steps to help resolve the problems.

What is their role?

  • To help all children to learn how to play cooperatively with each other.
  • To help children resolve minor conflicts.
  • Teach children to play a wider range of games.
  • Help lonely children make more friends.

At Staunton and Corse Primary Academy, we believe that our Year 6 children gain tremendous value from working closely with younger pupils and taking on roles of responsibility. These experiences not only allow them to model positive behaviour but also reflect our Christian vision of "Let your light shine" (Matthew 5:16)—encouraging every child to use their gifts to serve others and make a meaningful difference within our school community.

By supporting and guiding younger children, Year 6 pupils develop vital soft skills such as empathy, patience, leadership, and integrity—qualities deeply rooted in our Christian values. These attributes are nurtured further through additional leadership opportunities as they move through the academy and continue to grow throughout their secondary education. This journey helps them become the kind, respectful, and compassionate individuals we are proud to see shining their light both in school and beyond.
